PM Modi’s Surya Ghar Yojana Under Shadow? — CREDA Scam Sparks Political Firestorm in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh | August 6, 2025

At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious renewable energy vision — including the flagship Surya Ghar Yojana — is in full swing across India, the BJP faces a major credibility test in Chhattisgarh.

The CREDA commission scandal threatens to derail PM Modi’s clean energy dream as vendors have come forward alleging deep-rooted corruption within the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), headed by BJP appointee Bhupesh Savvanni.

With India’s push for solar rooftop energy gaining global praise, this scandal strikes at the heart of the Modi Guarantee.
The gravity of the issue makes it imperative for the BJP to take immediate, visible action, or risk eroding public trust in its clean energy promises.

Key Allegations Rock CREDA

Multiple vendors working with CREDA have filed formal complaints accusing Chairman Bhupesh Savvanni of demanding a 3% commission for project clearance, allegedly through his personal assistant Vaibhav Dubey.

The complainants also stated they were threatened with blacklisting if they refused to comply.

The written complaint has been sent to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Congress: “BJP’s Corruption Has Doomed Surya Ghar!”
The opposition Congress party has erupted in protest, alleging that the BJP is shielding corruption even in the Prime Minister’s pet initiatives.

Congress MLA Devendra Yadav questioned the silence of the ruling party, saying:

“Is this the ‘Modi Guarantee’? Why is there zero action on such serious corruption in the Prime Minister’s flagship energy scheme?”

State Congress President Deepak Baij and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel slammed the BJP government, calling this a “governance disaster” and accusing the ruling party of running a "Chanda Do, Dhandha Lo" model — a stinging reference to alleged political donations in exchange for business favors.

Probe Ordered — Denials & Defenses Follow

With the controversy spiraling, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's office has ordered an inquiry, requesting a full report from the Secretary of the Energy Department.

But instead of resigning or stepping aside, Savvanni has denied all allegations, calling them:
Fabricated lies by Congress to hinder progress.

Adding fuel to the political fire, Savvanni was reportedly summoned to Delhi — though it remains unclear whether it was an official call or a private visit.

In a counter move, the Chhattisgarh Business Welfare Association has issued a letter calling the accusations “fake, motivated, and defamatory.

However, past shadows still loom — with sources recalling that Savvanni was previously accused of misappropriating ₹132 crore during his tenure as Housing Board Chairman.

Political Fallout: “Modi Guarantee or Political Hypocrisy?”

This episode is no longer just about one agency — it has become a litmus test for the BJP’s core promise of corruption-free governance.

As Congress sharpens its attack and the public watches with rising concern, the ruling party must act swiftly or risk losing moral authority over one of its most celebrated national initiatives.

“If corruption is allowed in solar energy, where else is it festering?”, asked a senior Congress spokesperson.

With the Surya Ghar Yojana at stake and opposition calling this “a betrayal of the people and the planet”, the BJP’s silence may prove costlier than expected.

Will Action Follow Words?

As the country watches, the question now is:

Will the BJP rise to defend the PM's dream with clean governance — or will this turn into yet another instance where ‘zero tolerance’ means zero accountability❓
